Every fee both marketplaces charge a European seller, side by side — then the same product run through both so you can see what actually lands in your pocket.
On a €27.99 item with €7.00 of product cost and €4.50 of shipping, Etsy leaves you about €0.22 more per unit than Kaufland.de — €8.41 against €8.19. That is before advertising, and it can reverse at a different price point or in a different category, which is exactly why the calculator below takes your numbers.

Both figures come from the same calculation: order revenue minus commission on whichever base the platform actually uses, minus per-order and payment fees, minus the consumption tax sitting inside your price where that applies, minus your product cost and shipping. No midpoints are invented — where a marketplace publishes a band, you see the band.
GERMANY ONLY, renamed from etsy-eu. VERIFIED this pass. Etsy publishes payment processing per country, and Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, France and Spain are all 4% + €0.30, so the euro record is right for every euro market it covers. The 6.5% transaction fee and the €0.18 listing fee come from Etsy’s fee policy. This record is Germany-led (19% VAT): Germany and the Netherlands are NOT among the nine countries with a regulatory operating fee, so none is modelled here, but France (1.14%), Italy (0.80%) and Spain (0.88%) DO carry one and selling from those countries would cost more than this record shows. CORRECTED: the published commission band for the main markets (DE, AT, CZ, SK, FR, IT, ES, NL) is 7 to 16%, with jewellery highest. The 4 to 12% band carried here since July was the POLAND band, which is a different market. Categories Kaufland does not list are a flat 13% in the main markets. Commission is charged on the gross sales price INCLUDING delivery charges, and only on completed sales. Plans are €39.95 Basic and €59.95 Plus, both plus VAT and both including a €30 monthly ads credit. Media carries an extra flat €0.70 per item, which is category-specific and not modelled. Category sub-ranges within the official band remain estimates.
On a €27.99 product costing €7.00 with €4.50 shipping, Etsy nets about €8.41 per unit versus €8.19 on Kaufland.de — a gap of roughly €0.22. That ordering can flip with a different price or category, so run your own numbers before committing.
Etsy charges 6.5% in the general category and Kaufland.de charges 13%. Both vary by category — the full table on this page lists every one.
Yes. In Europe your listed price is VAT-inclusive, so the tax inside the price is removed from revenue before margin is calculated.
Yes, and most established sellers do — the point of comparing is knowing which one deserves your ad budget and your best pricing. The Goal Planner can split a monthly profit target across both channels at once.
