How we compare Amazon.de and eBay.de

Both figures come from the same calculation: order revenue minus commission on whichever base the platform actually uses, minus per-order and payment fees, minus the consumption tax sitting inside your price where that applies, minus your product cost and shipping. No midpoints are invented — where a marketplace publishes a band, you see the band.

GERMANY ONLY, re-sourced from amazon.de’s own pricing page this pass. It was amazon-eu, one euro record standing in for Germany, the Netherlands, France and others with VAT approximated at 20%; that could not honestly carry per-country fulfilment, since German local, European Fulfilment Network and Pan-EU differ by about 3x on the same weight band. It now carries real German VAT at 19%, the Germany-only fulfilment table and the German digital services treatment. France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands are NOT modelled and the UI says so rather than implying coverage. The old id amazon-eu still resolves here via the alias. A German-established seller selling in the German store pays NO digital services fee, which is why there is no catch-all row. Several thresholds genuinely differ from the UK and were corrected: furniture breaks at €200 not £175, jewellery and watches at €250 not £225, automotive at €50 not £45, and tools are 13% not 15%. Not modelled: the Prime/FBA clothing variant (15% to €45 then 7% above) and the 13% furniture-accessory and door/window sub-rates. GERMANY ONLY. Renamed from ebay-eu for the same reason amazon-eu became amazon-de: a record carrying market DE while displaying “(EU)” conflates one country with a continent, and eBay rates differ sharply between European sites. The old id still resolves via the alias. Re-sourced from eBay.de’s own business-seller fee page. The flat 11% carried here since July was wrong: German rates run 7% (computers and consumer electronics) to 16% (watches and jewellery), and clothing is marginal at 12% up to €990 then 3%. The fixed fee is €0.35 per order at or under €10 and €0.45 above, not a flat €0.35. IMPORTANT CAVEAT: these are the rates for sellers with Top-Rated or above-average service status; below-standard sellers pay more, so this record shows the best case. eBay.de’s business fee page does not list a regulatory operating fee, unlike eBay.co.uk, so none is modelled. Sneakers at €100 or more are 7%, shop-versus-no-shop thresholds differ for watches and jewellery, and refurbished and used conditions are 5%; none of those variants are modelled. REGULATORY FEE: checked and eBay.de charges NONE, unlike eBay.co.uk’s 0.35%. Its business fee page lists only an international fee (1.2% UK, 1.6% Europe/US/Canada, 3.3% elsewhere, and only when the buyer is outside the eurozone and Sweden) and a 3% currency conversion fee, neither of which applies to a domestic euro sale. The absence is deliberate, not an omission.

FAQ

Is Amazon.de or eBay.de cheaper for sellers?

On a €27.99 product costing €7.00 with €4.50 shipping, Amazon.de nets about €7.63 per unit versus €7.46 on eBay.de — a gap of roughly €0.17. That ordering can flip with a different price or category, so run your own numbers before committing.

What commission does each charge?

Amazon.de charges 15% in the general category and eBay.de charges 14%. Both vary by category — the full table on this page lists every one.

Do the fees include tax?

Yes. In Europe your listed price is VAT-inclusive, so the tax inside the price is removed from revenue before margin is calculated.

Can I sell on both?

Yes, and most established sellers do — the point of comparing is knowing which one deserves your ad budget and your best pricing. The Goal Planner can split a monthly profit target across both channels at once.
